Shirley Dilworth Jaychuk Competition
Shirley Dilworth Jaychuk had a lifetime love of art. Perhaps it was genetic – her paternal grandmother was an accomplished portrait painter, and her paternal aunt painted exquisite miniatures. Her husband Stan had painted in his youth, but gave it up for a career as a business systems analyst. He made an exception where his beloved Shirley was concerned, though, always agreeing to paint landscapes that Shirley admired. Shirley was especially fond of the Group of Seven, and specifically A.Y. Jackson, A.J. Casson, and J.E.H. MacDonald. She also enjoyed the French impressionists and Van Gogh.
Upon her passing in 2006, her husband wanted to do something to keep Shirley’s love of art alive. After several conversations with the staff and board of the Elora Centre for the Arts, The Shirley Dilworth Jaychuk Painting Competition was created.
“Shirley would have supported this,” says Stan. “This is something to commemorate her love of the arts. The fact that the competition is for representational painting would make her very happy.”

Graduating Artists from the University of Waterloo MFA Program
June 18 - August 3, 2009
Opening Reception is Wednesday Evening June 18 at 8:00pm Everyone is welcome
In a Masters of Fine Arts program, artists push their work to explore new directions and questions. This show is a snapshot of where such questions have taken six graduates from the University of Waterloo: video, painting, installation and drawing that will surprise and engage you. This kind of research, ofcourse, does not result in fixed answers, but generates new ideas and experiences. Come and experience the questions at the Minarovich Gallery this summer.
Gallery Hours are 9:00 - 5:00 weekdays and 1:00- 3:30 on weekends - Viewing is FREE - donations are accepted. |
